Eastern Ribbon Herring

The fish is named for the silver-white longitudinal stripe on its side, which is less noticeable in juveniles but does not easily fade in adults. It is distributed in the western Indo-Pacific region, including the waters of East Africa, the Red Sea, the Maldives, the Seychelles, Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and more. Whether eaten fresh or dried into fish jerky, it is delicious and suitable for stir-frying with a generous amount of seasoning.
